Our Simulator is actually a Home Build project having been lovingly created by the owner John Davis.
It is located at John's home and is actually quite famous having been on TV, Radio, National and Worldwide Press, (See Gallery pages) It is currently the only Home Built Simulator for hire in the UK.
Planning for the simulator began in 1999 and the first three years were spent acquiring computers and testing software with the first sections being constructed in 2002, The Simulator incorporates many commercially available pieces of hardware, uses 7 computers and approx. 30 software programs which make it all work, most of these have been written by friends John has met during construction. In 2007 it was decided to open the simulator up to the public offering our Flight Experience Packages.
The Simulator is capable of being flown In all weathers, Sun, Rain, Fog Snow, Thunderstorms,
Wind and Turbulence are all simulated, dedicated software is used to read actual
weather reports from real Airports and Weather Stations via the Internet, this feeds
the data into the Simulator, we can also use Pre-
Sound is one of the most important parts of the Simulator, there are 3 sound systems which include Sub Woofer Speakers under the Crew Seats so you can actually feel the Sound ! Every sound is heard, even the voices of the Air hostesses running through their Passenger Briefings all of which greatly enhance your flight experience.
The main Software used for the 747 Systems and Instruments is Aerowinx Precision Simulator (PS1) This is very accurate and has an excellent flight model. We currently use Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 for Visuals and some sounds only, The Visual Display uses a forward view is projected onto a large screen in front of the main windows and Two 19” Flat Panel Monitors provide the forward side window views and when seated this gives an almost wrap around view.
(Please note as many of our Photographs are taken with wide angle lenses the forward screen can appear smaller than it is in reality, its size is approximately 10 ft. x 6 ft.
The Flight deck is equipped the same as the real aircraft with fully working MCP (Autopilot) EFIS and EICAS, Flight Management Computer ,Throttles, Flap and Speed Brake and Thrust Reversers.
How realistic is it ?
Very .. we have many happy
customers including real Airline
Pilots many who are amazed
how much work has gone into
making the Simulator as realistic
as possible. After a Session it
is quite normal for customers
to be surprised that they are
back in a home and have not
left the ground.
Hopefully these photographs
go some way to doing it justice.
